History

Vagabond Theatre Group was founded in the fall of 2009 as an outlet for young artists to get their work into the competitive Boston theatre scene. Working for themselves, the first members of the group were able to play by their own rules.

At inception, VTG was a small company, only able to perform one summer production a year. The 2012-2013 season included two productions and its 2013-2014 season will include three.

VTG has also developed a quarterly new play reading series called “There Will Be Words” (often abbreviated to TWBW and pronounced tuh-WUH-buh-wuh) which showcases plays by Boston playwrights in public readings at Trident Booksellers & Café on Newbury Street in Boston. Plays are accepted through an open submission process and VTG selects plays with strong arcs that need the extra little push from audience feedback.

Through its past four years, Vagabond Theatre Group has developed from a small group of friends with the goal of producing one play into an organization full of young artists with endless stories to tell.
